Policy on the Use of the State of Connecticut Web Site Accessibility Logo

Revised: November 20, 2002

The State of Connecticut Web Site Accessibility logo was created in 2000 to provide a unique identity and easily recognizable way for state agencies to indicate their compliance with the Universal Web Site Accessibility Policy for State Web Sites.  The logo can used on an agency Home Page in conjunction with a text compliance statement, or, alternatively, an agency may choose just to use the text compliance statement.

In order to provide some protection for that identity on the World Wide Web and the Internet, the State of Connecticut Web Site Accessibility logo is being officially registered and service marked with the Secretary of the State's Office in accordance with Chapter 621a of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Existing language

Accordingly, it is the policy of ConneCT Management Advisory Committee (CMAC) that the CMAC Web Site Accessibility logo shall be exclusively used to identify Universally Accessible web sites and it shall be restricted in its use principally to the State's "home page", its directly associated meta pages, and the "home pages" of Connecticut State Government Agencies and Organizations.

Proposed language

Accordingly, it is the policy of ConneCT Management Advisory Committee (CMAC) that the CMAC Web Site Accessibility logo shall be exclusively used as follows:

  1. The logo will be exclusively used to identify web sites that have been certified by the CMAC Web Site Accessibility Committee to be in compliance with the Universal Web Site Accessibility Policy for State Web Sites,
  2. The logo shall be restricted in its use principally to the State's "home page", its directly associated meta pages, and the "home pages" and meta pages of Connecticut State Government Agencies and Organizations,
  3. As the compliance statement declares that the entire web site is in compliance with the policy, agencies are asked not to place the statement on every page.

The CMAC Web Site Accessibility Committee also recommends the use of qualifying language with the use of the CMAC Web Site Accessibility logo.  The language can include a description of the process used to make the site accessible, the process used for assessment and compliance, and a request for feedback from visitors that have any difficulties using the site.  Links back to any portion of the CMAC Web Site Accessibility web site can be used as needed.
